Similarities and Differences of DVD sleeves and Film Posters

The differences between this film poster and the DVD sleeve are that the poster has the title in the lower-middle corner, whereas the DVD sleeve has the title in the top-middle corner. Also, the poster features the blurb, but the DVD sleeve has the blurb on the back of the DVD sleeve. The poster does not have the brief plot summary, whereas the DVD sleeve has a plot summary at the back of the poster.

Another difference is that the DVD sleeve features the spine with the title, age rating, DVD logo and symbol and a close-up image of part of the film's main setting, but the poster does not have a snipe, as it is two-dimensional. 

The poster does not include the BBFC age rating nor the company logo, but DVD sleeve features both at the front in the lower corners. The poster has only one side, however the DVD sleeve has a front, a back and a spine. The DVD sleeve features a newspaper/magazine quote and a star rating.  

The similarities between the two are that the characters are in the same pose, they both have the same title, the same tagline, they have the exact same background and they both contain the movie blurb. Another similarity is that they both carry an endorsement (the TV show 'The League of Gentlemen').

They also both feature blurb containing the names of actors, costume designers, directors and affiliated companies and corporations. 

Alan Partridge Alpha Papa 2 Film Poster: Process Through Screen Shots

This is where I started from with my film poster. I uploaded this image onto PhotoShop from a portable camera. 

I then used the Lasso tool to trace around the image and I then uploaded it into a background the college front entrance  that I then painted green by manipulating the hue and saturation.

I then decided to proceed to the next phase and use the Text tool to type the title onto the poster.

This is the back of the DVD sleeve that I had created using a photo of a brick wall at my college.

This is the blurb of the back of my DVD sleeve. I uploaded a poster blurb that my tutor had already created on Learning Box and edited it as I saw fit.

I created a fake film company, Fame Propel, and created a logo and applied the company to my DVD sleeve in order to make my product look more professional and authentic.

This is the spine of my DVD Sleeve that I created to generate authenticity.

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa 2 Poster Annotation

 

I began by taking a photo of one of my Media tutors. I then went onto Photoshop and edited the colour of the tutor's hair, shirt and jacket in order to match the kind of attire that you would normally see Alan Partridge wearing. To create this, I used the Magic Wand and Paint Brush tools.

I then went outside and took a photograph of the front of the College and I then used the Select tool to move my Alan Partridge-esque tutor to the background with the Media College front entrance on it.

I then painted the front door of the College the same colour as "Alan's" green jacket. I then used the Text tool to type the film title and tagline. I then used Drop Shadow tool to underline the title and tagline to make it stand it better. I then went onto My Documents and uploaded a genuine BBFC cefiticate 15 age rating that I had previously used.

I then went onto Learning Box and downloaded a genuine film poster blurb and I edited the details accordingly.  I also added a North Norfolk Digital sign that I obtained from the internet and put it onto the poster by expanding it over the the actual sign that was there before. I did this by clicking on Edit and then Transform.

I used the layers to hide the college sign and replace it with a 'closing down' sign with the Text tool; using a white background. I also coloured the nearby litter bin black and wrote a message that fitted in with the film's plot. I then created a shadow of my "Alan Partridge" tutor using the Rotation tool.

I transformed the bin into a donation tin. I altered the colour from green to black. I did this by selecting the object using the Polygonal Lasso tool and changed the Hue and Saturation levels. I created a shadow behind Alan Partridge to create the shadow, I used the Lasso tool and dragged the outline and changed it's Hue and Saturation.

I proceeded to create a quote from a fictional newspaper using the Text tool. I then gave a star rating of five and gave a commentator name and a name for my fictional newspaper. Finally, I created a note at the top of the poster of the two main characters: Alan Partridge and Lynn Benfield.

Film Poster Ideas

1) This is the first poster idea that I came up with. It is a picture of a series of photos of Alan Partridge in humorous situations being carried by a gentle breeze (the breeze is depicted by the faint lines across the screen) overlooking North Norfolk Digital station as the sun rises over the surrounding area. I think this poster is the best because it really identifies what Alan Partridge is associated with: radio and humour.

2) This is the second poster idea that I came up with. It features a post-apocalyptic world that is in ruins that has been invaded by a race of stereotypical "Grey" aliens who are dressed just like Alan Partridge. I think that this poster is the best because because it expresses the hilarity and escapism that the Alan Partridge series offers.

3) This is the third poster idea that I came up with. It centres around a weird and crazy image of Alan Partridge that I based around old folklore, science and themes associated with the character's personality. I think this poster is the best because the zaniness and unimaginability of the series as a whole.

4) This is the fourth poster idea I came up with. It is a image of Alan Partridge made up of doodles pinned to a notice board inside a telephone box with items and abbreviations doodled and pinned near the character. I think this is the best because the crazy imagination and ambiguity of this poster symbolises the surreal silliness of the show.
